For immediate release:
The University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music welcomes new flute professor Elise Blatchford to the faculty. Ms. Blatchford is a member of the City of Tomorrow, the only wind quintet to win a gold medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in twelve years. The quintet continues to tour throughout the US and Canada. Ms. Blatchford is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the San Francisco Conservatory.

Ms. Blatchford will perform a recital of works by Bach, Sancan and Messiaen at Harris Recital Hall in Memphis on Friday, October 4th, 2013 at 7:30 pm. Admission is free. Cathal Breslin, the new piano professor at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, will accompany.

The next morning, on October 5th at 11 am, Ms. Blatchford will conduct a flute masterclass with students from Henderson State University. This event is open to the public and admission is free.

The University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is aggressively recruiting new flute students and has multiple merit scholarships available for undergraduate musicians. There are also two graduate assistantship positions open that include a full tuition scholarship plus a stipend. Ms. Blatchford will consider DMA applications this year, and those degree candidates receive full tuition plus stipend as well.

New Competition for High School Students!

The Texas Flute Society will host the 3rd Annual Donna Marie Haire Competition for high school students at their festival, May 15-17, 2014. Prizes are $1000 for first place and $500 for second place. Recordings of the first movement of the Mozart G Major Concerto (exposition only) and Debussy's Syrinx are due February 17, 2014. Welcome, Elise Blatchford!

The Mid-South Flute Society would like to welcome Elise Blatchford, the new professor of flute at the University of Memphis. Elise will be presenting a recital on Friday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Harris Recital Hall (Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music) on the University of Memphis campus. The recital will feature the Bach Partita, the Sancan Sonatine, and Le Merle Noir by Olivier Messaien.

News from the Flute Society of Kentucky

The Board of Directors of the Flute Society of Kentucky would like to announce the 2014 KY Flute Festival!  It will be on January 17-18, 2014 at Western KY University in Bowling Green, KY.  Our guest artist will be flutist Jill Felber!!  She will share her performance and teaching talents with us during the Festival - you don't want to miss this!

In addition to learning from our guest artist, participants may perform in the Solo Competitions, present a Clinic, perform in a concert, visit the Exhibit Hall, or even perform in a Masterclass for Jill Felber!  To find more information and all of the necessary forms, please visit the website, www.FSKentucky.org.  This website will continue to be updated until the Festival, so check back often.

We will also have the 2nd Annual "Flute Olympics" during the 2014 Festival!  The Flute Olympics is a special opportunity for Middle School and High School flutists to complete and have learning experiences that are specifically created for them.  The Olympians can win medals for their achievements in the Flute Olympics!  Please see the website for more information.

A special word to Kentucky HS flutists and teachers - please notice that the Recording Round music for the the HS Soloist Competition is the same music as is required for KY All-State auditions.  HS students from outside of KY may also enter the FSK Solo Competition by playing the same music - everyone is welcome to enter the FSK Competitions.
