Meet the winners of the 2023 Young Artist Competition
First Prize: Holly Venkitaswaran
Flutist Holly Venkitaswaran studies with Molly Barth at Vanderbilt University. She won the 2021 Vanderbilt Concerto Competition, 2019 WI Flute Festival Young Artist Competition, and 2018 Chicago Flute Club Competition. She plays a 14k gold flute made by Juan Arista.
Second Prize: Madison Booth
Madison Booth studies with Jonathan Keeble at the UI Urbana-Champaign. She performs with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Sinfonia da Camera, and Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. She maintains a private flute studio, and co-founded the Elevating Flutistry Intensive in Boise, Idaho. B.M., Boise State Univ., M.M., Univ. of Illinois.
Third Prize: Ziqing Guan
Ziqing Guan is pursuing a DMA degree at the University of South Carolina. She is originally from Guangzhou, China. Ziqing holds flute performance degrees from Texas State University and Xinghai Conservatory of Music in China. She has been a prize winner and finalist in several competitions including the Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition, the Philadelphia Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and the South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition. Her principal teachers include Dr. Jennifer Parker-Harley, Dr. Adah Toland-Jones, and Professor Qi Yan.Ziqing Guan is pursuing a DMA degree at the University of South Carolina.
