The Mid-South Flute Festival High School Soloist Competition is open to High School flutists enrolled in grades 9-12. Competition applicants must submit an online application, preliminary round recording, and fees by March 1, 2018 to be considered.
REPERTOIRE Candidates should choose up to five minutes of music that will best display their ability. Single movements, or editing to fit time limit are acceptable. Piano accompaniment is not required for the preliminary round recordings; however, pieces written with accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment in the final round. Mid-South Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the competition. Competitors may elect to bring their own accompanists at their own expense.
PRIZES Winners will be awarded the following prizes: First place winner $150.00* Second place winner $100.00 Third place winner $50.00 *First place winner will be featured at the Saturday evening gala concert! Steps for the Application: 1. Please pay your registration fee ($35) 2. Fill out the application form. 3. Record your entire piece in an individual file using either wave or m3 format. Piano accompaniment is not required for the preliminary round. 4. Label your file with your last name and title of the pieces (e.g. smithballade.mp3) 5. Email your recording file to this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org 6. If you have issues emailing the recording, you can upload it to Dropbox and share the dropbox files with the email address listed above.
Rules -The first place winner may be give the option of performing on the Saturday evening gala concert. - Previous first prize winners are not eligible. - Previous contestants may not reuse pieces. - To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in grades 9-12 (or home school equivalent) and not have a high school diploma. - Eight finalists will be selected to compete in the live final round during the Mid-South Flute Festival on Saturday, April 7th. - Online applications, preliminary round recordings, and fees must be submitted by March 1st for the entrant to be considered. - Entrants will be notified by March 15th about final round qualification. - Performances will be limited to six minutes. Single movements or editing to fit the time limit are acceptable. Final round performances will be stopped after six minutes. - Pieces written with accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment in the final round. (Piano accompaniment is not required for preliminary round recordings.) - Mid-South Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the competition. Competitors may elect to bring their own accompanist at their own expense. -Judges' decisions are final. - Entry fee will include Festival entry, Mid-South Flute Society membership, and services of the festival accompanist if needed.
