HIGH SCHOOL SOLOIST COMPETITION 2024 Application and recordings due: January 8, 2024
PRELIMINARY REPERTOIRE Prelude for unaccompanied flute by Ulysses Kay one selection not exceeding 5 minutes (cuts permitted)
The Mid-South Flute Festival High School Soloist Competition is open to High School flutists enrolled in grades 9-12. Competition applicants must submit an online application, preliminary round recording, and fees by January 8, 2024 to be considered.
FINAL ROUND REPERTOIRE same as preliminary round 8-10 finalists will be selected to compete at the 2024 festival
PRIZES Winners will be awarded the following prizes: First place winner $150.00 Second place winner $100.00 Third place winner $50.00 Steps for the Application: 1. Please pay your registration fee ($35) 2. Fill out the application form. 3. Record your entire piece in an individual file using either wave or m3 format. Piano accompaniment is not required. 4. Label your file with your last name and title of the pieces (e.g. smithballade.mp3) 5. Email your recordings to the coordinator at jessicaleebanks@gmail.com 6. If you have issues emailing the recording, you can upload it to Dropbox and share the dropbox files with the email address listed above.
Rules - Previous first prize winners are not eligible. - Previous contestants may not reuse pieces. - To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in grades 9-12 (or home school equivalent) and not have a high school diploma. - Based on submitted recordings judges will select competition winners. - Recordings will be limited to five minutes. Single movements or editing to fit the time limit are acceptable. -Judges' decisions are final. - Entry fee includes Festival entry, Mid-South Flute Society membership.
