The Mid-South Flute Festival High School Soloist Competition is open to High School flutists enrolled in grades 9-12. Competition applicants must apply online by March 1, 2018.
REPERTOIRE Candidates should choose up to five minutes of music that will best display their ability. Single movements, or editing to fit time limit are acceptable. Pieces written with accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment. Mid-South Flute Festival will provide a staff accompanist for the competition. Competitors may elect to bring their own accompanists at their own expense. PRIZES Winners will be awarded the following prizes: First place winner $150.00 Second place winner $100.00 Third place winner $50.00 First place winner will be featured at the Saturday evening gala concert! APPLICATION Please pay your registration fee ($35) and fill out the application form at: www.midsouthflute.org
Prizes are $150, $100, and $50 for first, second, and third place respectively. The first place winner may be asked to perform on the Saturday evening gala concert. (Previous first prize winners are not eligible. Previous contestants may not reuse pieces.)
1. To be eligible, applicants currently must be enrolled in grades 9-12 (or home school equivalent) and not have a high school diploma.
2. A maximum of two students from each teacher's studio will be accepted.
3. Students are taken on a "first come, first served" basis. The first recommendation from each studio will be taken in the order received, and then if more finalist slots are available a second entry from a studio will be chosen, also in the order received. There will be a maximum of fifteen finalists.
